Caves, monoliths, valleys, mountains, waterfalls, and rivers form a scenic mountain range panorama. The park’s summit offer breathtaking views from 6,562 feet above the sea level. In 1985, Chapada Diamantina National Park was created for the protection of Serra do Cincora and attraction of ecotourists.

Vale do CapaoVery near to Chapada Diamantina National Park’s main treks, Vale do Capao, or ‘Valley of Capao’ offers quite a marvelous mountain view. Vale do Capao’s people came from various parts of the world and fostered a lifestyle of respect for nature and human development. The culture is diversified and the community is very hospitable and welcoming. The valley was once a diamond and gold mining region. Vale de Capao’s community immerse themselves in workmanship, art and sustainable and agricultural activities like phytocosmetics, phytotherapy, organic agriculture, cultivation of medicinal herbs and organic honey. They also involve themselves in chorale, theater, dances, capoeira , and tourism. Their tourism is committed and geared towards the conservation and protection of cultural and natural patrimony.
Cachoeira da FumaçaLocated in Chapada Diamantina, Cachoeira da Fumaca is 1,247 feet high and is one of Brazil’s highest waterfalls. It is so high that the water does not hit the ground and instead, is sprayed by the wind. You can enter the area through guided trips from Lençóis but if you are coming from Vale do Capao, you have to walk 10 feet from the main village. At the entrance, you may give a donation and they will have a guide available for your trip. During the hot season, it is best to start your trip early in the morning.
How to Get ThereVisitors may take the bus from a bus station in Salvador de Bahia. Purchase a ticket to Palmeiras (roughly 6-7 hrs, costing 27 BRL). You may choose from their two departures, either 7 AM or 11 PM. Upon you arrival, a 4x4 will transport you to the Valley of Capao, around 12 miles from there.
Nearby LandmarksThe Enchanted Well, or Poco Encantado, is a 120-feet deep waterhole that has magnificently clear water, so clear that the tree trunks and ancient rocks at the bottom are visible.
Lendas do Capao is a great hotel featuring beautiful chalets and tree houses. Set right in the valley, the pousada offers a lovely mountain view. There is also a river you can take a swim or dip in. The owners are friendly and accommodating and will help you arrange treks with a bilingual guide.
