Dubai’s Souk al Bahar is one of the city’s many recreated souks hosting a wide range of upmarket shops, boutiques, and eateries. What sets it apart from all others, however, is its exquisite location. Built on the shores of the Dubai Fountain Lake, right across from Burj Khalifa (the city’s tallest building) it is without a doubt one of the most picturesque al-fresco dining spots in town, as well as one of its more relaxing shopping destinations. Often considered an extension of Dubai Mall, the Souk Al Bahar is ideal for those who prefer quality over quantity, and wish to shop while enjoying sensational city views.

What You’ll Find at Souk al Bahar

Architecturally striking, the Souk al Bahar is a lovely Arabesque-designed covered mall, home to over 100 outlets, 80 of which being for retail space and over 20 restaurants and cafés. Being centrally located, it is a favored spot of short-term visitors spending just a day or two in Dubai, and discerning locals who don’t mind a little more for better quality gear.

If it’s good quality clothing, jewelry and souvenirs you’re after, then this souk may be just what you’re looking for. This may not be the most economical of shopping hubs, that’s granted, yet it is home to unique brands and one-off boutiques. Particularly revered for its wide selection of boutiques trading in Iranian carpets, precious antiques, and delicate fabrics, the Souk al Bahar is very much a revered shopping haunt for wealthy locals.

For superb dining, you can’t walk past the waterfront promenade eateries which make Souk al Bahar so very popular after dark. This is really where the souk shines brightest. The two-level dining section of the bazaar is accessible straight from Dubai Mall via a striking boardwalk, and boasts restaurants offering a wide selection of cuisines. Restaurants here are a little on the expensive side, but when you consider the fact that this is one of the city’s most scenic dining spots, where you can enjoy the Dubai Fountain shows in between ,morsels of delectable food, then it makes the splurge very much worthwhile.

If you want to indulge in the experience of dining here without blowing your budget, then check out one of the charming cafes instead. Crowd-favorite La Postreria is a gorgeous shisha (Wikipedia Article) café which boasts outstanding views but offers smaller delicacies, ideal if you don’t wish to splurge too much. Enjoy a coffee and sensational dessert, while still indulging in this magnificent setting.
